Located in a historic 1902 Carnegie library building, the History Center at the Marion Public Library connects the public with Grant County’s rich past. Through its local history museum and the Indiana History & Genealogy Room, the History Center offers an extensive collection of local history resources. Engaging exhibits highlight pivotal moments in our region’s story, including the gas boom era, the free Black settlement of Weaver, and Marion’s rise as the “Home of the Hog.” In addition, the History Center periodically hosts local history events and presentations, provides genealogy and research assistance, and offers public access to its historic photo collection of over 7,000 images.

The historic building itself is a treasure, showcasing neoclassical architecture with a stunning facade, original mosaic floors, and grand staircases crafted from imported Italian marble. Originally the home of the Marion Public Library, the structure was repurposed as a museum in 1992, continuing its legacy as a center for learning and community connection.

A beau­ti­ful yel­low house built in 1902 sits behind shade trees locat­ed at 926 South Wash­ing­ton Street on the south side of Marion’s down­town area. The place is known to some as the Marie Web­ster Home and to oth­ers as The Quil­ters Hall of Fame.

The Quilters Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization whose mission is to celebrate the art of quilting and the people who have made major contributions to the quilting world. Today, the Marie Web­ster Home holds some of her orig­i­nal quilts, and reg­u­lar­ly fea­tures works from oth­er quil­ters. The muse­um changes the dis­plays sev­er­al times through­out the year. Each dis­play offers a small descrip­tion about the piece includ­ing the design­er, quil­ter, whether the piece was quilt­ed by hand or machine, and the sto­ry behind the design, if there is one.

Creative Hearts Art Studio is part of the core programming of Carey Services. An art studio that turns abilities into opportunities for individuals with disabilities. People who  were historically perceived as unemployable non-viable citizens, are  today creating visual evidence of the depth and wealth of the creative  human spirit. Offered a responsive structure, quality materials and  welcoming space, individuals with developmental differences reciprocate  with wildly imaginative, beautiful creations that are fresh and  approachable.

The original studio opened in a section of their production facility building on the Marion campus, but participation was such that in February 2017, the programming was expanded into two rooms of the Marion day services area. The original studio was renamed the Inspirations Room, while the new rooms were named the Imaginations Room and Limitless room.

Located in historic Helena Hall, the Taylor Art Gallery is home to the Boren Collection of Western Art. This collection is the bequest of Leland and LaRita Boren, longtime residents of Upland and faithful supporters of Taylor University.

This art legacy is the product of a decades-long labor of love: collecting Western and Native American art subjects. The Boren Collection previously decorated the Boren’s business headquarters, AVIS Corporation, in Upland.

Echo Gallery first began at the Boston Hill Cen­ter, but it did not take long for Tashema Davis’ vision — ​“for the city, by the city” – to take off, and she need­ed a big­ger space. She now has a full store­front locat­ed down­town. She said that Mar­i­on need­ed an art gallery where local artists which include stu­dents and adults alike, may dis­play their works.

Tashe­ma also has a vision to bring out the artist in every­one, so she offers a vari­ety of paint­ing class­es in her stu­dio for a very rea­son­able charge. There are also craft days and now pot­tery paint­ing. She con­tin­ues to find new ways to teach both the begin­ner and the experienced.

Frequency Canvas was established in 2019 by Kyren Monteiro with the belief that audio production is not only a science but an artform as well. Frequency Canvas embodies both the philosophy that “Sound is Art.” In sound recording , audio mixing is the process of combining multitrack recordings into a single track and these tracks that are blended together are done so by using various processes such as EQ, Compression and Reverb.

Audio mixing techniques largely depend on music genres and the quality of sound recordings involved. The process is generally carried out by a mixing engineer, though sometimes the musical producer or music artist may assist. After mixing, a mastering engineer prepares the final product for production.

Understanding our own personal history and our locality’s history provides a good base for interpreting national and world events.

The purpose of the Grant County Historical Society is to collect, preserve, research, publish, and interpret the heritage of Grant County, Indiana, to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of our county’s history, art, and natural environment.

The Grant County Historical Society works closely with the Marion Public Library Genealogy Club to strengthen our effort to preserve both our individual histories and our community’s collective memory. The genealogical record is vitally important in the context of our total history.

​Artifacts collected by the Grant County Historical Society are given to the Marion Public Library for museum display. The Museum is a department of Marion Public Library, and its in the historic Carnegie building at 600 S. Washington St., Marion. Society members volunteer as docents when there are traveling exhibits in the Museum.

​The Grant County Historical Society meets at 6:15 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month from February to November.
